The elephant seal, which lived in the capital of British Columbia, was taken for its safety to one of the remote beaches of Vancouver Island. After six days, the animal nicknamed Emerson returned to his hometown. For this, she had to cover about 200 km, writes The Independent.
The elephant was plunged into the back of the van, after which it was taken to a distant beach. On April 15, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans said the 200-kilogram animal had been spotted in waters off Victoria. To return home, the elephant seal traveled 34 km every day.
Morgan Van Kirk, who helped transport Emerson to Vancouver Island, said that he was very surprised by the animal's return to the capital of British Columbia. He could not believe his eyes. There was no way the elephant seal could turn back on its own, but it did because Victoria is its home.
The animal gained wide popularity in the city due to its immediacy. Emerson constantly appears in unexpected places such as busy roads, city parks and flower beds.
