The USA will build a new "Doomsday plane"

The previous model of an aircraft capable of withstanding nuclear explosions is obsolete. It will be replaced with a new one.

The US Air Force has ordered a new "doomsday plane" to replace an older model. This was reported by Reuters on Saturday, April 27, with reference to the statement of the US Air Force.

It is noted that the contract was signed with Sierra Nevada Corporation for the amount of 13 billion dollars.

Production of the new aircraft is expected to be completed in 2036. At the same time, the service life of the old "doomsday planes" E-4B ends in the early 2030s.

The E-4B is called the "Doomsday Plane" because it is designed to withstand nuclear blasts and electromagnetic interference. The liner is a kind of mobile command post and is usually used as a transport for the US Secretary of Defense.

These aircraft are capable of refueling in the air, and inside they have rooms for conferences and briefings, as well as modern communication equipment.

The U.S. Air Force currently operates four such aircraft, and at least one of them is in constant combat readiness. The new aircraft, which is planned to replace the aging E-4B, will be based on a commercial jet that will be modified according to military requirements.

It was also reported a year ago that the American military-industrial companies Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and Raytheon Intelligence and Space will join forces to jointly develop a new "doomsday plane" that can be used in the event of a nuclear war.
