The headquarters of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Hanover, Lower Saxony, was raided after some of the party's donations were allegedly undeclared and could be bribes. The newspaper Bild writes about this with reference to sources.
According to Bild, the prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation on suspicion of violating the law on party donations.
Around 9:48 a.m., the police broke into the headquarters of the party branch. It is noted that in the morning the local parliament lifted the immunity of two members of the Landtag, including AfD politician Ansgar Schledde from the district of Bentheim. Schledde is the deputy chairman of the party and intends to run for the position of chairman. According to Bild, Schledde allegedly "hid" party donations, about XNUMX euros, in his private account. As a result, party donations were not properly registered.
Member of the Federal Parliament from AfD, Ansgar Schledde, is suspected of fraud with money
The prosecutor confirmed the investigation against the member of the state parliament from the AfD and the search of two buildings. In addition to the state office, the investigators also visited the office of the AfD district association Ems-Vechte.
In addition, during the federal state elections, there were accusations that the AfD was providing promising positions on lists for money, the publication said. Instead, the party leadership rejects all the suspicions of the law enforcement officers. AfD chairman Frank Rink explained: "The accusations against my deputy Ansgar Schledde have no basis."
According to Bild, the search lasted three and a half hours. The police officers took boxes full of files and other documents out of the building and put them in police cars.
