Republicans are calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson to turn on "foolproof" as they prepare to vote on an aid package for Ukraine on April 20.
CNN writes about it.
According to journalists, colleagues privately recommended Johnson to include wording in the text of foreign aid bills that would change the procedure for firing the speaker and make it more difficult for any individual congressman to initiate it.
"It's not clear what Johnson will do, but party members believe he is considering changes to the process known as a 'vacation motion' (the right of any member of the House of Representatives to demand the formal removal of the current speaker and the election of a new one - ed.) ", the article says.
Republicans and Democrats in Congress were split on whether to support the changes.
However, the channel notes, many Democrats see Johnson as a more honest partner than Kevin McCarthy at such critical moments as avoiding a shutdown and now voting for aid to Ukraine.
