Speaker Mike Johnson intends to combine a modified version of a separate bill the House passed last month with foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

The law would require the sale of TikTok by its Chinese owner or a ban on the app in the US, accelerating efforts to dismantle the popular social media app.

The NYT (The New York Times) also adds that while the new law still requires TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to owners, it allows for an extension of the sale period to nine months from the original six months, according to the text of the law promulgated by the leadership of the House of Representatives. The president can extend that deadline for another 90 days if progress is made on the sale.

House lawmakers are expected to vote Saturday on a package of legislation that includes a ban on TikTok and other bills popular with Republicans, a maneuver aimed at getting lawmakers to vote on foreign aid. If the package passes, the measures will be sent as a single bill to the Senate, which could vote soon after. President Biden has said he will sign the TikTok bill into law if it reaches his desk.
