Among berry pests, the most terrible enemy of raspberries and strawberries is the weevil. It is small in size, up to 3 mm, the body is elongated, it has a long nose. This insect attacks the flower of the plant and can destroy most of the crop.
The female weevil lays eggs in berry flowers. The larvae completely gnaw the flower from the inside. Pest activity begins in the spring.
You can fight with beetles mechanically, collecting them in the morning. When they are inactive, they are in a state of numbness. Spread white paper under the bushes and shake the plant. Collect the bugs that hit.
A mustard solution will help in the fight against weevils. To do this, take 100 g of mustard powder and dissolve it in 3 liters of water, stir and treat the bushes affected by beetles.
You can make a decoction of fragrant herbs: tansy, wormwood and add bitter pepper or garlic. Sprinkle the plants with this solution.
In the spring, you can pour wood ash around the bushes, it repels weevils.
