With the onset of cold weather, the main problem for motorists is to replace summer tires with winter tires. It is forbidden to drive on summer tires, it is unsafe in conditions of snow and ice. The stability of the car on a slippery road, especially in the presence of a large layer of snow, can also be ensured by non-studded tires. Grip with the road surface is created thanks to the pattern of the tread. A drawing with small rectangles arranged in a checkerboard pattern is considered the most effective. If there is often wet snow on the roads and slush is observed, then it is better to take tires with a directional pattern, which will ensure the drainage of water and mud from under the wheels.
It is also important to consider the depth of the pattern on the rubber. The optimal option for winter is 9-10 mm.
Features of using winter tires
As a rule, the service life of winter tires is 2 years. Some models can last up to 4 years. It will determine when the car needs new tires by erasing the tread pattern. If 4 mm has "gone" from it, then it's time to change the rubber to a new one.
It is also important to consider the chemical composition of the material from which the tires are made. The rubber can be soft or hard. For asphalt, it is better to take hard rubber. The soft one will wear out quickly, but it will provide good "adhesion" to the road in conditions of snow or ice.
The golden mean will be the choice of tires with an asymmetric tread pattern, where the outer part will ensure movement on asphalt, and the inner part - on snow.
