Wine glasses and subtleties of etiquette

29
Many people like to pamper themselves with the hoppy gifts of the vines, but I can say: when you go to a restaurant, embarrassment is mixed with pleasant anticipation. Gaps in the knowledge of the rules of etiquette make one doubt which wine glass to take or how to choose drinks suitable for the main course. To save yourself from unpleasant moments, find out all the nuances in advance!

What you need to know

Wine etiquette is considered the most dynamic and up-to-date, so you only need to remember the basic rules:

• Glasses are held not by the wide part, but by the stem.

• If earlier the card was given to men, now the rule is outdated. The right to make a decision belongs to the customer, regardless of gender, and it happens that ladies understand the issue better than gentlemen. The sommelier gives customers the opportunity to show initiative and is oriented towards a more active person.

• When the choice is made, the customer proceeds to tasting. The return is provided only in the event that the wine is spoiled, because the argument "not liked" is inadmissible.

• The drink is poured for the oldest of the ladies present, then for the rest of the fair sex, and then it's the turn of the men. They also fill their glasses according to seniority, but the tradition is gradually receding into the past - no one likes to emphasize age!

• When visiting a restaurant, you will notice that sommeliers leave corks from bottles on the table. Why do they do it? The answer is simple, because it can be smelled even by those present who refused the drink - this is enough for connoisseurs to get an idea of the variety. There is a second reason: if you like the gifts of Bacchus, but do not want to write down the name, take the cork with you and later buy the type you like.

Having learned the subtleties, you will feel comfortable even in an elite establishment!

How to choose a capacity

At receptions and guests, in restaurants and at home, wines are served in wine glasses that can be purchased in the store Sweet home, according to established rules. For white varieties, you will need a bucket of ice, because they need easy cooling. Red wine requires special stands, and if the bottle was stored in a room with a temperature of 10-15 C, it should be moved to a warm room a couple of hours before use.

It remains only to choose containers for an exquisite treat, for which it will be necessary to take into account its properties:

• The "Burgundy" glass for the sweet red variety has a bowl-shaped shape and a significant volume, which allows the content with a moderate content of tannins to be saturated with oxygen. Since the expanded edges direct the liquid to the tip of the tongue, the receptors better perceive the shades of taste. A convenient property is used by tasters using this form for any wines in order to identify the shortcomings of the proposed product.

• For a dry red, the "Bordeaux" option is suitable. Its capacity is higher than that of "Burgundy", and the conical outlines concentrate the aroma and release the layers of the bouquet, allowing the connoisseur to get real pleasure.

• Containers for white species are similar to the previous type, but differ in smaller volume, as their contents should not heat up. Manufacturers offer lines of different capacities, because light and young varieties are served in small portions.

More mature wines are opened in large glasses, the shape of which compensates for the lack of acidity during tasting.

• To enjoy champagne, take a "flute" with a narrow neck and a recess at the bottom called a "chamber". This feature allows you to prolong the perlage (sparkling) and make the taste more refined and stable.

If you think that dishes do not play a role in tasting, conduct a small experiment. Pour one variety into a glass intended for it, an ordinary glass and a shot glass, and see in practice how different the taste will be!
