How to safely use a chainsaw

25

A chainsaw is a tool that is used quite often. Moreover, the use is not limited to professional loggers. Chainsaws can often be found in private homes, summer cottages, and so on. And this is not surprising, because, for example, it is much easier to prepare logs for the furnace of a bath when you do not have to swing an ax or fumble with a hacksaw - the chainsaw saws itself.

However, despite the extremely high degree of usefulness of this tool, it is important to remember that it represents a potential danger, especially if the saw is in inexperienced hands or low-quality consumables are used. Therefore, it is very important to observe safety rules.

Running

After you bought it a reliable chainsaw at an affordable price first you should go through the so-called break-in with it. After carefully reading the operating rules specified in the instructions, it is necessary to prepare everything for the first launch:

- Put a chain. The number of chain links (located on the inner part) must match the number indicated on the tire.

- They will tighten the chain. It is important to maintain a balance here: pull strongly, but do not overtighten. The chain should be so taut that you can pull it away from the tire by hand. When released, it should quickly spring back into place.

– Prepare and pour the fuel mixture. It consists of special oil for a two-stroke engine and gasoline. The proportions, respectively, are 1 to 50 (50 liters to 1 liter of oil). The fuel mixture is mixed in a special container and only then poured into the tank. It is not necessary to fill a full tank for break-in.

– Make several test starts and stops at low revolutions. This will help you understand whether all the mechanisms of the chainsaw are working properly, whether the chains and other points are properly tensioned.

After running in, before starting intensive work, it is worth making a couple of cuts, gradually increasing the power. And continue in this way until the fuel mixture is completely consumed. After the running-in and the preparatory stage are completed, you can confidently start work.

Tips for operating a chainsaw:

1. When starting the saw, it is necessary to stand on a flat, hard surface.

2. Always hold the chainsaw with two hands.

3. When starting, the recommended position of the chainsaw is on the side of the operator, not in the middle.

4. It is advisable not to move with the chainsaw switched on. To move the dust, it should be muffled.

5. It is always necessary to check the tension of the chainsaw, as it heats up and stretches during operation. Strong overheating of the chain will damage the tool in the best case, so it is important to monitor this moment.

6. Saws better with the lower part of the tire. The upper part is reserved for professionals.

7. After completing all sawing work, the dust should be cleaned of possible sawdust, chips and other debris. And the instrument itself should preferably be placed in a well-ventilated room for cooling.

8. After some time of operation, the chain will inevitably stretch (depending on the quality of the metal, it can happen sooner or later). In this case, there are 2 ways out: either buy a new one, or give it to the master to remove one link.

A chainsaw is a very useful tool. If all safety measures are observed, the saw can provide excellent service.
