Manual tile cutter for porcelain stoneware

37

Manual tile cutter is a tool necessary in construction for cutting slabs without bends. But some tools can be equipped with a "ballerina" that allows you to cut round holes. Such tile cutters are popular, as they are high-quality and convenient, and also have a fairly low price. The instrument itself consists of a platform-base, guide tubes fixed on the base.

The tool has the simplest design, but it is precisely this one that ensures high-quality cutting. To cut a porcelain tile, you need a high-quality tool, because this material is strong 9 out of 10. And tile is only 6.

The element with which all the cutting is done is a roller made of solid material, as in the case of a glass cutter, but of a larger size. This roller is perfect for cutting porcelain stoneware and tiles. But what is the difference between ordinary electric tile cutter is it a ceramic granite cutter? The answer is almost nothing. The difference will be only in the thickness of the cutting element.

Therefore, remember: the thicker your tile, the larger and thicker the cutting element itself should be.

Basic rules for use

Having chosen a tool that is ideal for cutting porcelain stoneware, you need to master some cutting techniques. There are various ways of cutting porcelain stoneware.

The first method involves the use of a manual tile cutter. It will be the most convenient and simple tool that will allow you to cut the material in half. First, the tile is fixed inside the tool, cut with a roller, and then broken along the cut. This method is characterized by speed, simplicity and a relatively low price. The disadvantages include the fact that it is simply impossible to cut narrow strips of 6 mm or less. And also, all cuts are uneven and necessarily require processing.

Take into account these rules when sharp:

  • The cut should be no closer than 8 mm from the edge;
  • The incision should be single.

But to cut porcelain stoneware, you can also use a glass cutter. This device can be used if you need to perform a small one-time volume of work. This tool is good because it fits perfectly in the hand and can cut in any direction. If you do not want to spend separately on a tile cutter, then a glass cutter is an ideal solution. The advantages of this method will be simplicity, cheapness, and speed. But there are also disadvantages - you will not be able to perform a large amount of work. You will have to be very concentrated and carefully monitor that the tile cutter passes in the right place. It is also worth noting that for cutting porcelain stoneware, you will have to cut the same place several times.

Tip: before starting such work, practice on the draft material

The simplest will be the use of an electric device. Cutting will be more simple, high-quality, but also expensive. In electrical devices, a diamond disc is used, which makes strips less than 5 mm from material of any thickness. It will also be a plus that all the dust settles in a separate tank containing water. Therefore, you should always know about the amount of water.
