Intercom devices and intercoms: what is the importance of such security systems

32

Intercom devices installed near a lockable entrance door or gate are an integral part of the system for protecting objects from unauthorized access. They are needed to be able to remotely identify and, if necessary, allow guests and visitors who do not have a key to enter the territory or premises.

Intercoms (intercoms) are installed at the entrances of apartment buildings. But they can also be equipped with other buildings, such as:

  • business centers or their separate premises;
  • industrial and trade enterprises;
  • hotels;
  • factory territories;
  • warehouse buildings.

Also buy intercoms it is possible to equip the gate of the home territory, as it happens in a number of new buildings in Kyiv and Odessa, or an intercom device for a secured underground parking lot.

What is inside the intercom?

A typical intercom consists of three devices. The first is the call block, which is installed directly at the entrance from its outer side. The call unit is equipped with a speaker, a microphone and a digital keyboard designed to dial the number or code of the required room or apartment. Very often, the call unit is combined with an electronic or magnetic lock key reader. You can buy an intercom with a code lock, where the code is entered on the same keyboard. If one room has several entrances, then the system usually has several call blocks - one for each.

A second device is installed on the subscriber's side - an intercom, which is additionally a remote control for opening a door or gate.

The third is a switching device that provides two-way communication between subscribers, call units and door locks or gate drives. It is usually hidden from both visitors and subscribers and is available only for service.

Types of intercoms

There are multi-subscriber intercoms designed for several apartments or offices, and single-subscriber intercoms designed for one user. The latter can be installed in warehouses, private houses or cottages.

In addition, intercoms differ in the type of transmitted information. The most common are audio intercoms that provide only negotiations and remote door opening. If it is necessary not only to talk with the visitor, but also to be able to visually observe him, then it makes sense to buy an intercom equipped with a video camera. In this case, the subscriber unit has a monitor on which the image is broadcast.

When choosing a video intercom, you should also pay attention to what kind of image it transmits: color or black and white, whether it has a backlight for observation in the dark, whether it has a video recording function, etc. - depending on the need and preferred.
