Canadian scientists from McGill University (McGill University) called the unexpected benefits of physical exercise based on the results of the conducted research. They found that the assimilation of a new motor skill occurs faster if, in the next few minutes after training, you do a short-term exercise for 15 minutes. This will help speed up the rehabilitation of people who have suffered an injury or a stroke. The research results are published on the MedicalXpress site.

25 people who performed two types of tasks took part in the experiment. They used dynamometer to control the cursor on the monitor moving between the red rectangles. The force of pressing on the device affected the movement of the cursor. After that, part of the subjects rested, and the second part did physical exercises. In both groups, the activity of brain areas was measured using electroencephalography.

After half an hour, time and 90 minutes after exercise or rest, the participants of the experiment had to perform a shortened version of the previous task with a cursor. They were given a dynamometer to simply move one of the rectangles on the monitor with the cursor. After 8 and 24 hours, the volunteers repeated the task. It turned out that those who exercised performed the task more effectively than those who rested after the first experiment. In the first, the skill was well preserved even after a day, which indicates a better consolidation of motor memory.
