Pininfarina is a name usually associated with elegant supercars, but the Italian design house decided to prove that it can also create practical things by introducing the AI Transformer Home Trailer, or AI-THt.
This development is the result of a partnership between Pininfarina and the American company AC Future, which is engaged in the creation of “eco-transformable homes.” Three options are offered: the mobile trailer AI-THt, the static house AI-THu and the autonomous vehicle AI-THd.
The AI-THd (AI Transformer Home Driveable) is equipped with autonomous driving technology, although Pininfarina is not yet revealing details about its capabilities. Additionally, the cabin can be converted into a mobile office or a second bedroom. Given the concept of “flexible housing”, you can expect familiar amenities such as kitchen equipment, a washing area and living space in this vehicle.
The AI-THt is a 24-foot-long expandable trailer that, when unfolded, provides up to 400 square feet of living space. For comparison, the average British home is around 900 square feet.
The static AI-THu “Home Unit” offers the same living space as a trailer, but with the addition of 40 square feet of outdoor terrace. Inside, there is a living room, office, bedroom and dressing room. Solar panels on the roof provide power for appliances and water heaters.
The price of a static AI-THu model in the US starts at $98,000 (around £80,000 in the UK). The manufacturer notes that this house could be used as a holiday home, Airbnb property, summer home or even a military facility, although details of the military use are not specified.
