At a recent meeting with dealers in Las Vegas, McLaren shared exclusive information about its new hypercar, which will replace the famous P1 that debuted more than a decade ago. The new car, known by the code name P18, promises to be a significant departure from the traditional values of the British manufacturer.
According to Automotive News, the new hypercar will get a new V8. This distinction is critical given that, with the exception of a few models such as the V6 Artura and the V10 racing Solus GT, almost all modern McLaren cars are equipped with 8- and 3,8-liter twin-turbo V4,0s. Based on Nissan's racing unit of the 1990s, these engines found their way into all of the brand's key models.
However, a "new design" V18 engine has been developed for the P8, unrelated to the previous versions of the powerplants. In addition, the new hypercar will be equipped with a hybrid system that is much lighter than the company's current internal combustion engines. It is expected that the total power of the hybrid installation will exceed 1000 horsepower.
Among other features, it is worth noting the abandonment of the company's double-sided doors in favor of gull-wing doors, as well as the use of many aerodynamic elements, including an active splitter and a rear anti-wing. The P18 will be presented as a two-seater.
According to preliminary data, the novelty will go on sale in the first half of 2026 at a starting price of about 2 million dollars. This hypercar will be a new stage in the evolution of McLaren and promises to bring significant changes to the premium segment of the automotive market.
