Scientists have found out that just two nights of insufficient sleep make a person feel much older than his real age. The results of the study were published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

The study, conducted by Swedish psychologists from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, included two parts.

In the first part, 429 people between the ages of 18 and 70 were interviewed about how they felt and how many nights they slept poorly in the past month.

The researchers used a sleepiness scale to rate each participant and found that each day of poor sleep made people feel about three months older. Those who slept well felt six years younger.

In the second part of the study, 186 people aged 18 to 46 were asked how much older they felt after two nights with all four hours of sleep and after two nights with a full nine hours of sleep.

Those who were not sleep deprived felt three months younger, while those who were sleep deprived felt 4,4 years older.

Lack of sleep can also negatively affect nutrition and physical activity, as well as the desire to communicate and gain new experiences.
