Thanks to a unique system that deciphers brain activity during sleep, a team from the University of Geneva (UNIGE), Switzerland deciphered mental processes during deep sleep.

By combining functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG), the Geneva team proved that during deep sleep the brain sorts the information received during the day. At this time, the brain, which no longer receives external stimuli, can evaluate the memories to retain only the necessary ones.
