China demands that the United States adhere to the one-China principle and not send "wrong signals" to Taiwan's leadership.
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Beijing, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
Wang emphasized that the Taiwan issue is the first "red line" in Sino-American relations.
"China demands that the United States adhere to the one-China principle and refrain from sending wrong signals to separatist forces advocating Taiwan independence (as Beijing calls the current Taiwanese government - ed.)," said a top Chinese diplomat.
He also called on the US to support the peaceful reunification of China and stop arming Taiwan.
Blinken, in turn, assured that the position of the administration of President Joe Biden on the Taiwan issue remains unchanged.
"The United States continues to pursue a one-China policy and does not support Taiwan's independence," the Secretary of State said.
The US position is the inadmissibility of a unilateral violation of the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, within which Washington opposes both Beijing's attempt to establish control over Taiwan by force and Taipei's declaration of independence without the consent of the PRC.
