The artist has 20 days to file an appeal
In his songs, Salehi supported the months-long protests in Iran in 2022, sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.
Iran's Revolutionary Court sentenced famous Iranian rapper Tumaj Salehi to death on charges of supporting mass anti-government protests in the country in 2022-2023. This is reported by Reuters.
It is noted that the artist in his songs supported the months-long protests in the country caused by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for allegedly wearing a hijab incorrectly.
The rapper was first arrested in October 2022 after making public statements in support of nationwide protests. He was sentenced to six years and three months in prison in 2023, but avoided the death penalty by the Supreme Court.
Tumaj Salehi's lawyer, Amir Raisian, later said that the first branch of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court had sentenced the rapper to death, despite the Supreme Court's decision.
The Iranian judiciary has not yet confirmed the sentence. Salehi has 20 days to file an appeal.
