Roskomnadzor blocks thousands of SIM cards

Sources of the Russian publication Kommersant claim that this is happening as part of the fight against the "grey" market of SIM cards.

In Russia, at the request of Roskomnadzor, communications operators block an average of 300 "gray" SIM cards every week. The Russian publication Kommersant writes about this with reference to its own sources.

Sources of the publication claim that this is happening as part of the fight against the "grey" market of SIM cards.

It is reported that until September 2023, operators received lists of numbers that needed to be checked once a week from Roskomnadzor. The companies checked the information and sent their conclusions to the department, and then Roskomnadzor sent a list of numbers to block communication services. Now, the censorship body sends the lists immediately for blocking.

"Operators warn subscribers 15 days in advance that they need to update their data, but not everyone does it. Already after blocking the connection, many people come to the salons and restore access to the rooms," said the interlocutor of Kommersant.
