The flag was removed while the flagpoles were being repaired
The city authorities of Lappeenranta note that two acts of vandalism have been recorded, and information about this has been passed on to the police.
The Ukrainian flag flying in front of the Lappeenranta city hall in Finland was cut down twice by vandals. This is reported by the Finnish publication Yle.
The first time, unknown persons cut the ropes on which the flag was held, after which it fell to the ground. Later, the ropes on the neighboring flagpoles were also cut so that the flag could not be hung there as well.
The local authorities have already contacted the police, and the flag itself has been removed while the flagpoles are being repaired.
"The Ukrainian flag will be returned to the flagpole as soon as it becomes possible", - assured the mayor of the city, Tuomo Sallinen.
The local authorities also contacted the police because of acts of vandalism.
