Tesla has recalled all Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024, due to faulty accelerator pedals that increase the risk of a crash.
The firm, whose CEO is Elon Musk, recalled all 3 Cybertrucks sold during the period, estimating that 878% of those trucks were affected by the defect. The problem, which Cybertruck drivers noticed and reported before the recall, was that the accelerator pedal cover would slide off and get stuck under the interior trim in front of it. After testing, Tesla confirmed the malfunction.
"If this condition is present and the driver attempts to depress the accelerator pedal, the driver will detect the condition due to an immediate deterioration of the pedal," the official recall report explains, adding that applying the brake will still bring the vehicle to a stop. "Additionally, if the condition is present when the driver presses the brake pedal, the driver will receive an audible and visual notification that the brake and accelerator pedals are depressed."

There have been no recorded accidents related to a malfunction caused by grease getting between the pedal and the protective pad.
"The unauthorized change involved the use of lubricant (soap) to facilitate installation of the accelerator pedal pad," the report explained. "The remains of the lubricant worsened the retention of the pad on the pedal."
In announcing the recall, Tesla said it would replace or repair the affected brake pedals free of charge for customers notified of the recall by letter.
