Laohu Salad (Chinese Tiger) is a summer salad that you can prepare in your kitchen. The cooking process is quick (especially if you have a suitable grater at home).


What is tiger salad?

In some places it is served as a side dish to meat main dishes, and in others - as a light snack served with drinks before a meal. Why is it called "Chinese Tiger" salad? The name of this salad translates as tiger vegetable. During the preparation of this publication, we discovered several Ukrainian names for this salad - "Tiger salad", "Old Tiger", but I like this version better - "Chinese Tiger".

Variations of tiger salad:

There are two main options for this salad. In northwestern China, tomatoes, red onions, and green chili peppers are often used in salads. This option is often served as a side dish to meat kebabs. Another variant comes from Manchuria in the northeast (the same region where the Manchurian tiger comes from). This version often includes green onions, green peppers, and cilantro. In Manchuria, this salad is most often eaten as a snack while waiting for the main course to arrive. As this salad gained popularity, many variations of it appeared. The most common option is to add some sliced ​​cucumbers, but you can also add red peppers and chilies to the mix. Today we share with you one of the varieties of salad - with cucumbers.

How to prepare a refreshing crispy salad "Chinese Tiger"?

Ingredients:

  • fresh cilantro - a small bunch;
  • fresh long cucumber - 1 pc.;
  • fresh green hot pepper - 2-3 pcs.;
  • green onions - 3-4 arrows.
  • roasted sesame - 1 tablespoon.

Sauce:

  • dark soy sauce - 1,5 teaspoons;
  • dark (fried) sesame oil - 2 teaspoons;
  • rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon;
  • sugar - 1 teaspoon;
  • sіl for relish.

Cooking technology:

Wash and dry the cucumber. Cut into thin strips, it is better to do it on a special grater "for Korean carrots". Chop the cilantro coarsely. Green hot pepper (it is better to use gloves carefully here) cut into thin strips.





In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved. Place cucumber, pepper and cilantro in a bowl. Dress the salad with sauce. WARNING! The amount of sauce should be enough to tie all the ingredients together, but the salad should not be too wet. In other words, don't pour a lot of sauce over the vegetables.
