The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has announced the arrival of the first of 25 Ford Mustangs that will begin patrolling the state's streets in the coming months.

This is not the first time the Ford Mustang has been used by the North Carolina State Patrol. The fleet already had several Mustang SSPs in the 1980s and 1990s. The new patrol cars are based on the 2024 Mustang GT, and according to the press service, the value of these powerful machines is "comparable to other vehicles" in their fleet.

However, the total value of the batch of 25 Mustangs or the amount of taxpayer money allocated to their purchase has not been disclosed.

Ford unveiled the seventh-generation Mustang at the North American International Auto Show in September 2022. The GT model is powered by Ford's fourth-generation 5,0-liter Coyote V8 engine with dual air intakes and dual throttle bodies. It develops 480 hp at 7150 rpm and a torque of 563 Nm, which should be more than enough for cops to overtake almost any sports car or supercar.
