Penguins from the zoo in the British city of Newquay were given a soap bubble generator to keep them active.

The miracle machine for flightless birds was bought by an anonymous patron - it was on the zookeeper's wish list.

Usually, the penguins interacted with zoo guests, for whom a feeding show was held. But due to the quarantine, the flow of visitors has greatly decreased. Flightless birds became bored, and encouraging their natural behavior became problematic.

According to zookeeper Dan Trevelyan, this fantastic machine creates movement, new shapes and colors, encouraging the penguins to be active - they have a great time chasing soap bubbles. During the quarantine, their routine changed, because they had to abandon some daily rituals.

Humboldt penguins living in the zoo swim fast, reaching speeds of up to 30 miles (a little more than 48 kilometers per hour). They live on a diet consisting of anchovies, krill and squid.

"In the wild, these guys are marine predators, they're very sensitive to objects and movement," says Trevelyan.

Bubbles do not harm curious penguins. The generator that creates them has also been used for some other zoo animals, such as monkeys.
