Sever's area of responsibility within the territory of three regions of the Russian Federation

The Russian command created a new grouping of troops near the borders of Ukraine, where it was deployed - further in the story.

As early as early April, Ukrainian military publications reported that the command of the Russian Army based in the Leningrad Military District was actively creating a new Sevier group. As expected, the formation will have approximately 60-70 thousand people, and its area of responsibility will be the Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions of the Russian Federation. In addition, the Ukrainian military did not rule out that the newly created units will also focus on the Kharkiv direction.

First mention

According to intelligence, the completion of the formation of the Sevier troop grouping was planned for June-July of this year. As of the beginning of April, the enemy had already formed the regular structure of the formation.

However, on April 14, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation mentioned Sevier for the first time in the summary. The Russian department even had time to brag about the alleged successes of this formation.

The occupiers claim that these units operate "in the Belgorod direction" in the areas of Ternova, Gatishche of the Kharkiv region and Radyanske of the Sumy region.

Usually, the Russian command calls the units that conduct combat operations in the border areas of the Russian Federation "groups covering the state border."

Ukrainian military publics are also reassuring, saying that Sevier was not necessarily created to carry out an offensive. Most likely, the Russian army will renew its units that will lose combat capability in other areas of active combat.

"Reinforcement" by conscripts

In turn, the Information Resistance project adds that Sevier was indeed deployed on Russian territory in the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions. According to the IS group coordinator Kostyantyn Mashovets, the formation will be largely staffed by conscripts.

"At least at the moment, a significant number of teams of Russian conscripts are directed (or are planned to be directed) specifically to the troops of the LVO (Leningrad Military District)," the expert noted.

According to him, while Sevier is in the stage of formation or regrouping, it is led by Colonel-General A. Lapin.

Transferred weapons

Regardless of the creation process, a number of combat brigades were transferred to Sevier's units, in particular: the 11th Army Corps (AK), without the 7th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment, and the 138th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (OMSBR) from the 6th Combined Arms Army .

Also, the new group may include formations from the 44th AK, probably also the 25th OMSBR. In general, according to Mashovets, the formation will have approximately:

    • up to 46-48 thousand personnel;
    • 350-360 tanks;
    • up to 860 armored combat vehicles (ACVs);
    • 940-950 artillery systems (AS), starting with 100-mm caliber and including 120-mm mortars;
    • 110-120 units of multiple rocket launcher systems;
    • up to 4-6 launchers of the operational-tactical missile complex.

"It has already been partially levied, or it is planned to be levied in the near future on these tactical directions (Bryansky, Kursky and Belgorodsky). A little later, when the Russian command completes the main volume of movement "to and fro" of troops from the composition of the Northern Army, I will try to give the distribution, specifically by formations and by directions," said Mashovets.
