Lifting the ban on two-wheeled vehicles on public transport lanes can improve the security situation in cities.

A petition to cancel the ban on the movement of motorcycles and mopeds on public transport lanes has already been registered on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. If it gets the required 25 signatures, the safety of travel for two-wheeler drivers can be improved.

From now on, taxi drivers, cyclists and emergency vehicles are allowed to use public transport lanes. At the same time, the lifting of the ban for all two-wheeled vehicles is fully in line with global road safety standards.

"As can be seen from the practice of the development of traffic rules in European countries, motorcyclists are allowed to move in the lane for the traffic of route vehicles in such large cities as London, Birmingham, Madrid, Malaga, Córdoba, Seville, Athens, Thessaloniki, Genoa, Bologna, Venice, Stockholm etc.," the petition says.

"For the purpose of bringing the national legislation into line with European standards, reducing the number of accidents on the roads, I propose to allow the passage of the lane for the movement of route vehicles to motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters. Make appropriate changes to the Traffic Rules and other normative acts of Ukraine," suggests the author of the petition, Valery Gorbachev.
