The Japanese brand Mazda has already stopped selling the diesel sedan in the United States, Great Britain and Japan. However, the Mazda6 sedan/wagon is still sold in Europe and other markets.
Nevertheless, the brand has decided to release a successor to the model that has existed in the current generation since 2012.
Mazda EZ-6
The new EZ-6 model was developed by the Changan Mazda joint venture and will be available in electric and hybrid versions.
The sedan uses the Kodo design language, but with a partially illuminated grille and retractable door handles. You can also see some Jaguar features in the taillights and possibly the headlights as well. Above the light bar at the rear is an active spoiler, which is unusual for a sedan.
Mazda EZ-6 on 19-inch aero wheels has a large panoramic glass roof and frameless doors.
Chinese pedigree
According to preliminary information, the electric and plug-in hybrid sedan is based on the Changan Shenlan SL03 model, which received a more attractive interior.
The salon has little in common with Mazda products, which explains the connection with the Chinese predecessor. Although, the huge central console may be interesting for some.
Under the hood
Some preliminary specifications have been added to the first official images.
The Mazda EZ-6 received a rear-wheel drive setup as an electric model, which has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a multi-link rear suspension. The unspecified battery has a range of 600km under the China Passenger Car Test Cycle (CLTC). The plug-in hybrid can cover 1000 km before running out of fuel and discharging the battery.
The novelty has a length of 4920 mm, a width of 1900 mm and a height of 1483 mm. This makes it slightly larger than the old 6.
The Mazda EZ-6 will make its public debut this week at the Beijing Auto Show, after which it will go on sale in China. The model is unlikely to be exported to other markets, but the manufacturer is already preparing for the debut of the electric sedan in Europe.
Most likely, the new Mazda6 for the European market will be built on a different platform and the brand has already patented the name "6e".
