At the Beijing Auto Show, Mazda unveiled the "Arata," an electric SUV that will enter the Chinese market as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y by 2025. Mazda is entering the electric car segment, targeting one of the fastest growing markets in the world.
Mazda Arata, reminiscent of the size and format of the CX-5, offers buyers the option of choosing between a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Continuing its collaboration with Chinese automaker Changan, Mazda has developed the Arata as part of their joint venture. This collaboration enables Mazda to leverage Changan's expertise and resources, potentially leading to the sharing of technology and advancements between Arata and Changan's Deepal S7.
The Mazda Arata is expected to be similar in size to the Mazda CX-5. According to preliminary estimates, the length of the Chinese model will be 4,75 meters, width - 1,93 meters, and height - 1,62 meters. Thus, the novelty belongs to medium-sized SUVs that are perfect for both city and country conditions.
Although Mazda has provided information on the Arata's design and purpose, specific technical details regarding its performance, range and performance are not yet available.
Changan has already demonstrated its ability to produce electric vehicles with an impressive range: some models can travel up to 620 kilometers on a single charge. For SUVs similar in size to the Arata, charging time is typically around 35 minutes to reach 80 percent battery capacity.
Changan Deepal S7 Hybrid, available in various versions in its home market, has a total range of 1 kilometers.
Mazda Arata's potential entry into the European market remains uncertain at this time. However, the success of Mazda's conventional SUV lineup in Europe, combined with growing demand for electric vehicles, may influence Mazda's decision to expand the Arata's availability outside of China.
