It was like a snapshot of evolution.

A cheeky monkey took a selfie with two British tourists in Bali, Indonesia.

Gloya Dennis and her husband, Craig, were in the Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest and spotted one of the 1260 Balinese long-tailed macaques that live in the sanctuary, after which, like many tourists, they decided to photograph it. However, the situation changed when a primate appeared to be photographed instead of people.

In the photo, the tech-savvy animal snaps an open-mouthed selfie while a couple stares at the camera in disbelief.

It was definitely the trip of a lifetime! - commented the traveler.

This is not the first time a primate has been caught on camera. In 2011, a crested macaque named Naruto caused an international stir when he photographed himself smiling at an unattended camera on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. When the owner of the device, David Slater, who was on a business trip at the time, published the photos in a book, PETA sued him on behalf of the monkey. They argued that the sale of the photographs infringed the monkey's rights under the Copyright Act. However, the defendant claimed that his company Wildlife Personalities Ltd. owns the international commercial rights to the photographs. The case ended in 2018 after a US appeals court ruled in Slater's favor on the grounds that animals cannot sue for copyright infringement.
