The Chinese company CATL introduced the new Shenxing Plus EV battery, which is able to get a charge in 10 minutes, which is enough for almost 600 km of mileage. The developer claims that the new battery of the electric car provides a range of more than 1000 km.
The Shenxing Plus battery is known to use a cheaper, advanced lithium iron phosphate for faster charging. CATL said that the new electric vehicle battery is the first in the world with 4C ultra-fast charging. It is noted that even at extreme temperatures down to -20°C, the new battery provides ultra-fast charging.
To increase energy density, CATL introduced its own 3D cellular material. As a result, Shenxing Plus has an energy density of 205 Wh/kg, which is comparable to most traditional NCM batteries.
Lithium-phosphate batteries tend to be cheaper, but are known to have a lower energy density. The new CATL battery should change the perception of this type of batteries. In January, CATL said it would reduce the cost of such batteries per kWh by 2024% by mid-50.
