People come to the Louvre just for the Mona Lisa

The Louvre, the world's most popular museum, welcomed around 9 million visitors last year.

Mona Lisa, the most famous portrait in the world, can get a separate room in the Louvre, the president of the museum, Laurence de Carre, told the France Inter TV channel.

De Carre noted that such a move would give visitors, many of whom visit the Louvre just for the famous painting, a better experience.

“It's always disappointing when you don't give your visitors the best possible experience, and that's the case with the Mona Lisa. Today, it seems to me that a better solution is needed," said de Kar.

She said that the Louvre was discussing possible solutions with the Ministry of Culture.

The Louvre, the world's most popular museum, welcomed around 9 million visitors last year. 80% of them - 20 people per day - wanted to see Mona Lisa's mysterious smile.

The Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre's largest hall, the Salle des États, behind a protective glass case, but Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece is not the only one here.

Together with him, the works of Venetian masters of the 16th century are exhibited here, and at the other end of the room hangs the largest painting of the Louvre, The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese.
