How many eggs can you eat a week without fearing for your health and considering that the product contains a lot of cholesterol? Matthias Riedl, a well-known nutritionist in Germany, gave an answer to this question in the publication of Fitbook magazine.


The chicken egg is one of the most controversial natural products. For a long time, eggs were called cholesterol bombs, and even today the recommendations of the German Nutrition Society (DGE) refer to the consumption of no more than two to three eggs per week to prevent heart-threatening increases in blood lipid levels.

Nutritionist Matthias Riedl commented on these data. According to him, the aforementioned recommendation is too conservative. In reality, every resident of Germany today consumes 4-5 eggs a week, which Dr. Riedl finds completely harmless.



The specialist notes that eggs present in a person's diet do not cause significant changes in his cholesterol level.

"Egg consumption has nothing to do with cholesterol levels. In some people, it even leads to a certain decrease, in others it remains the same or increases insignificantly, without affecting health," the doctor shared his opinion.

According to the standards of the German Nutrition Society, the amount of cholesterol consumed should not exceed 300 mg per day. At the same time, it is contained not only in eggs, but also in other products of animal origin (dairy, meat).



Matthias Riedl states: Cholesterol from food does not have a negative effect on most people. Research in recent years has shown that the human body has its own mechanisms for the production and elimination of unnecessary cholesterol.

Dr. Riddle said that a healthy person can eat even 10-15 eggs a week, it will not cause problems. The doctor emphasized that one egg contains all eight essential amino acids needed by the body. The product effectively supports the building of muscle mass (especially after training), provides long-lasting satiety and helps reduce weight.

"If you generally eat little, rarely eat meat, regularly do sports, then you can eat two chicken eggs every day without any fear," he added.

However, people suffering from rheumatic diseases need to strictly control the number of eggs, since animal fats in their case contribute to inflammation. It is also not possible to eat a lot of eggs with disorders of fat metabolism.

For people who do not have health contraindications, the nutritionist recommends using eggs without discarding the yolk.

"The yolk contains most of the valuable ingredients of the egg and is more saturated with protein. By removing it, fearing fat and cholesterol, you are depriving yourself of valuable vitamins, minerals and part of the protein," the nutritionist warned.
