Rare and unique cars are not talked about much, but this does not diminish their importance in the history of automobile construction. The other day, photos of a rare Zaporozhets prototype appeared online.

The first experiment to create a new model was conducted in 1958. Then, on the basis of the NAMI Research Institute, together with the engineers of the Komunar plant, a model of a four-wheel drive mini-truck was created, which was named "Vognyk".

Such a car was too large for the city, and therefore it was developed for driving in the countryside. The machine had high passability on all types of soil, except for swamps and snow 20-25 centimeters deep. "Vognyk" could even compete with Moskvich-410 or GAZ-69.

Engineers designed the car in such a way that, although it could overcome any terrain, it was not heavy. Its weight of 750 kg allowed two people to pull out the car if it got stuck somewhere.

After testing, the experimental sample was transferred to the Zaporizhzhya Automobile Plant, which further refined the car. But despite all efforts, the car never became serial, but the work was not in vain, because some of the developments were used in the ZAZ-969.
