Researchers continue to emphasize the importance of a healthy diet, discovering new properties in well-known products. Although the relationship between diet and longevity is quite complex, scientists note that some nutrients can reduce the risk of developing dangerous chronic diseases, including cancer.

In particular, according to a study published in the Natural Medicine Journal, walnuts fall into this category of products. According to scientists, this is one of the key conclusions of the scientific work, during which the eating habits of 7216 people were studied.

During the study, experts received information from the participants about the consumption of nuts in general and walnuts in particular. One portion was considered 28 grams of the product. During the 4,8 years of the study, 323 deaths of volunteers were recorded, of which 81 were from cardiovascular diseases and 130 were from cancer.

It turned out that the consumption of nuts was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of total mortality. Compared to those who did not eat them at all, those who consumed more than three servings of nuts per week (32% of the cohort) were 39% less likely to die early.
