Defense spending must be increased to 5% of GDP in order to purchase the necessary munitions worth 1,5 billion euros.

Estonia's defense spending in the next two years should be increased to 5% of GDP in order to purchase the necessary munitions worth 1,5 billion euros. This was stated by the head of the Estonian Defense Forces, Martin Herem, reports ERR.

"In the coming years, the defense budget should be much larger than it is now, and then it will be slightly smaller again, because we can calculate how much goes to procurement and how much goes to maintenance. This does not mean that it should be 5% in the next 10 years, 5% can be in the next two years, and then a little lower," he said.

According to the general, it is known how many Russian troops can advance against Estonia and what needs to be done to quickly stop the aggression. "Estonia is not alone, we are together with our allies, but we must take care of our share beforehand. It will be 1,5 billion for ammunition. This means waging a war in which most targets are destroyed not on contact with us, but further away. And this is the factor where the Ukrainians have a problem today," said Herem.
