A few months after showing the updated coupe and cabriolet of the 4 series, BMW introduced the updated electric car i4. The novelty received minor styling changes inside and out, including laser taillights, as well as a new infotainment system.

The most obvious update to the Bavarian electric car is the headlights, which have ditched the signature angel-eye daytime running lights and replaced them with a more abstract, curved motif. As standard on the M440i and i4 M50 and optional on other models, buyers are now offered the adaptive LED headlights and laser taillights taken from the M4 CSL.

The BMW 430i Gran Coupe still has a 2,0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower, but it's now complemented by a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This engine now runs on the Miller cycle for increased efficiency. In the M440i Gran Coupe, the power plant now produces 386 hp. As before, both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In the interior of the electric car from BMW and the hybrid, two new steering wheel options are now available - a two-spoke steering wheel for standard models and a three-spoke steering wheel for cars with the M Sport package. The curved infotainment display also now runs BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment system, and the i4 also offers improved EV route planning with charging stops.
