As the warm season approaches, car owners actively begin to think about preparing their car for the summer. One of the key aspects is the efficient operation of the air conditioner, which ensures comfort on the road on hot days.
On April 25, the director of the Autolist company Viktor Voloshyn told "Avtosota" about how to prepare the air conditioner for use after winter downtime.
"In urban conditions, where we encounter dust and poplar fluff, the cabin filter should be changed every spring before the start of the season. Usually, this process coincides with maintenance, which must be carried out every 10-15 thousand km. You should not save on replacing the filter, even if it looks flawless, remember - it can be a breeding ground for microbes that you breathe in the interior of your car"Voloshyn warned.
According to him, if the windows fog up during rain while the air conditioner is on, or warm air comes out of the nozzles, this can signal problems in the system. Such signs require immediate diagnosis. It is recommended to check the refrigerant level every two years. This can be done independently by paying attention to the frequency of turning on the compressor clutch and the operation of the radiator fan. If the performance of the system has decreased, it's time to contact specialists.
The expert added that the service should be urgently contacted if a refrigerant leak is detected, as this can lead to moisture entering the system and, as a result, expensive repairs.
To prevent overheating of the compressor, he recommended regularly checking and refueling the system, as well as monitoring the cleanliness of the radiator and cabin filter.
"Keeping the radiator clean and replacing the interior filter on time is the key to the effective operation of the air conditioner. Try to avoid long standing in traffic jams, use the AUTO mode for climate control or recirculation on conventional air conditioners after starting the engine”Voloshyn added.
In addition, he noted that maintaining the performance of the air conditioner in the off-season is just as important as in the hot summer. Regularly turning on the air conditioner will help prevent fogging of the glass and dry the air in the cabin. Climate control in automatic mode will maintain the necessary operation of the air conditioner, turning it on or off as needed.
"If you have an ordinary air conditioner, remember that it does not activate at an ambient temperature below -3 degrees", - emphasized the expert.
Finally, he noted that regular maintenance of the air conditioning system will not only extend its service life, but also help avoid unforeseen repair costs in the future. It is worth washing the radiator of the air conditioner once every 60-70 thousand km, but take into account the operating conditions of the car - in a more polluted environment, it may be necessary to do it more often.
