These reptiles live in water and feed on fish, small mammals, and turtles. But the video published on Twitter on September 19 proves that in a confrontation between an alligator and a turtle, a predator of a higher order is capable of defeat.

In the footage, the toothy one throws the turtle into its mouth, clicks on the shell with its fangs, trying to eat it, but to no avail.

In the end, the reptile misses the prey, and it, wasting no time, "rushes" to the water, leaving the alligator without dinner.

The video was originally posted on YouTube in 2017 and has garnered over 43 million views.

The owner of the channel said that he filmed the alligator in the backyard of his house in South Carolina (USA).

The original video is presented in better quality and lasts a little longer.

But for many Twitter users, the footage has become a novelty — the video has garnered more than 4 million views on the social network.

The footage seemed to people to be an ideal metaphor for many situations:

• "Alligator is the ruling class. The turtle is a working class. The armor is the solidarity of the working class."
• "I would like to imagine myself as this turtle. The alligator is 2020, and I'm not giving up yet."

But especially fauna lovers liked the seemingly upset look of the alligator, after the lunch slipped right out of its mouth:
