Public confidence in self-driving technology has taken a hit in recent months following a series of high-profile incidents in the US, but a new partnership between Audi and Applied Intuition aims to address key safety concerns with such systems for use in future cars.

Although you may not have heard of Applied Intuition before, the company works with more than a dozen major car manufacturers. Together with Audi, the firm is working on creating a unified solution to support the development, testing and deployment of automated driving systems for future Audis.

Both companies aim to accelerate the development process of automated driving features and reduce costs with end-to-end modeling and data management solutions. This framework will also leverage Audi's scenario-based system engineering expertise to support all current and future regulatory requirements.

Neither Audi nor Applied Intuition said how long their partnership would last. It also remains unclear when their joint solution for automated driving functions will be ready and begin to benefit future Audi models.

"The expertise of both Applied Intuition and Audi is mutually beneficial to deliver high-quality automated functions worldwide, regardless of the software we provide to our customers," said Audi Executive Vice President of Engineering, Dr. Gero Kempf.

According to him, Applied Intuition's solution enables the automation of design workflows based on data-driven scenarios and the adaptation of co-developed applications for the overall management of high-performance, safety-critical systems.
