A group of researchers led by archaeologists A. Turta and S. Vrachionidu found traces of a shipwreck that occurred during the Greek War near the coast of Halkidiki. The military conflict continued from 1821 to 1829.

According to the Greek Reporter, the wreckage of a 25-meter-long wooden ship was found 80 meters from the coastline at a depth of 4 meters. At the shipwreck site, archaeologists managed to discover many artifacts, including two 1,5-meter cannons and a coriophilia rifle. This weapon was widely used by the Greek revolutionaries.

The vessel dates back to the 18th-19th centuries. This is confirmed by the artifacts found by archaeologists (metal vessels, earthenware, porcelain cups, copper pan, sails, ropes, etc.).

The authors of the study believe that the ship could have played a certain role in the Greek Revolution. A revolt broke out in Halkidiki under the leadership of Emmanuel Pappas. The rebels tried to stop the Ottoman army, which set out from Istanbul. They failed to do this. The participants of the uprising were defeated at Cassandra. The rebels, including Pappas, were rescued by the dog fleet.
