The summer heat is exhausting and dangerous for our pets, even more so than for us, especially if they have a lot of thick and long fur.
But do not rush to cut your dog or cat bald.
There are several not so radical, but effective ways to help your pet cope with the heat and avoid overheating that is dangerous for the body.
Change your walking schedule
To avoid walking with your dog in the heat, try to change your walking schedule and go outside early in the morning or late in the evening. If your pet is used to walking even during the day, then take him out only for a short walk "on business" so that he does not have to wait too long until the evening. Or buy a cooling vest, which will allow you to stay outside longer without fear of overheating. In the heat, it is also better to refrain from active games.
Don't forget the water
Dogs and cats should always have access to fresh water. If you go to work for a long time, put several bowls in the house with water at room temperature, not ice, so that if the water runs out in one place, the animal can quench its thirst in another.
Do not close the door
Don't restrict your pet's access to the kitchen or bathroom if it has a tiled floor. Lying on it in the heat is much cooler than on other surfaces.
Wet towel
Leave your pets a towel soaked in cold water as a cooling pad if you leave the house for a long time. And if you do stay, then you can help your dog or cat survive the heat by periodically wetting their stomach and paws with water (it is not necessary to pour water over the pet from head to toe).
Cooling mat
Another great way to cool down our four-legged friends is a special mat. It can be purchased at a pet store. The mat does not require batteries or connection to an outlet, it is filled with a refrigerant in the form of a gel, which allows you to keep cool for a long time. The price of these can vary depending on the size - mats for cats and small dogs are usually cheaper.
