Buying or selling a car in Ukraine may seem like a simple matter - find a good car, negotiate with the seller, exchange money, and you're done.
However, despite the simplified re-registration procedure, ensuring a smooth transaction requires attention to detail, especially regarding the required documents.
Both parties must have the correct documentation to avoid delaying the deal due to missing documents or unforeseen requirements.
Documents required from the seller:
- Citizen's passport: The main identity document.
- Certificate of registration of the place of residence: If the IP address is not indicated in the passport, another document confirming the place of residence is required.
- Certificate of Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN): Unique identification code.
- Car registration certificate: A document confirming the right of ownership.
Additional documents for resale:
A document that determines the appraised value of the car.
Sales tax receipt.
Not necessarily: Vehicle inspection report.
Documents required when selling through a proxy:
Power of attorney: A document confirming the authority of the representative.
Documents, if the car was pawned:
Permission of the bank or leasing institution.
Required documents of the buyer:
- Citizen's passport: Identity document.
- Certificate of residence registration: If there is no IP in the passport, another document confirming the place of residence is required.
- Certificate of Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN): Necessary for legal transactions.
- Receipts for payment of registration services: Confirmation of payment.
After both parties have the necessary documents, they can proceed to sign the contract of sale. This contract, as a rule, is drawn up on the spot, free of charge, at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
After completing the registration process, the buyer receives a new registration certificate and, if he chooses, new license plates. With these documents in hand, the buyer becomes the full owner of the car and can legally drive it on public roads (provided he has a valid driver's license).
Therefore, preparing all the necessary documents in advance helps to simplify the process of buying and selling a car, preventing unnecessary delays and complications. Both sellers and buyers should prepare carefully to avoid any inconvenience and ensure a smooth and efficient transaction.
