People's deputies propose to introduce customs benefits on cars for military personnel and veterans. If the draft law is adopted, the import duty on cars for the military will be reduced or completely abolished (the amount of the duty is 10% of the customs value of the vehicle).
The Fourth Studio writes about this with reference to the Center for Joint Actions. The bill was sent to the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy. Analysts of the Center for Joint Actions explain exactly what changes the People's Deputies are proposing.
Import duty on cars is proposed to be abolished for people who belong or have belonged to the Defense Forces and have served at least 24 months during martial law, of which at least 12 months have been in combat. Also, those who were released from captivity (except for persons who surrendered voluntarily) will not be able to pay the toll for the car.
Those who have served under martial law for at least 36 months will have to pay only half the rate of import duty for cars. Such benefits can be used once every five years and only for one car per person.
Discounts will not apply to cars from Russia, Belarus or the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. Also, there will be no import duty discount for a car if its average market value exceeds two million hryvnias.
"Customs benefits for veterans, if they were approved, are the smallest thanks to our defenders for the defense of the state. This will not harm the state budget. And since the benefits are not extended to cars worth more than 2 million hryvnias, this initiative will really be most useful for military personnel who will buy an ordinary car for themselves, for daily use," says analyst Iryna Korzhenkova.
