Poland will change the rules of stay for Ukrainian refugees


A key change will be the abolition of the norm, which provides for the financing of meals and accommodation of Ukrainians at 40 zlotys per day in small private centers with a capacity of up to 10 people.

In Poland, the government is preparing changes to the law on assistance to refugees from Ukraine, which has been in effect since the beginning of the war. It is planned to cancel the system of financing food and accommodation in guest houses for up to ten people. This is reported by Rzeczpospolita.

It is noted that a draft of amendments to the law will be presented on March 29. Its main provisions were presented at the conference on the housing situation of refugees from Ukraine.

The key change will be the abolition of the norm, which provides for the financing of meals and accommodation of Ukrainians at 40 zlotys per day (400 hryvnias) in small private centers with a capacity of up to ten people.



The government will pay for the stay of a Ukrainian only in those places that have agreements with the voivodeship and, therefore, are under state control.

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, who is responsible for migration policy, Macey Dushchyk, most of them will not be able to cope without support.



"We are considering the issue of partial payment, because the problem arose that according to a special law, a citizen of Ukraine, and not a citizen of Poland, is of equal value. We have to balance it. The fact is that the state helps, for example, a Ukrainian refugee with children, giving her housing and food, but does not guarantee such protection to the Polish mother," he said.

Also, from next year, a temporary residence permit for refugees from Ukraine will be introduced (it is granted for three years). Currently, the special law automatically applies to everyone who has a PESEL UKR - a document that allows a stay in Poland for a period of 18 months with the possibility of leaving the country for a period of up to 30 days. A citizen of Ukraine will have a choice, but if he decides to stay temporarily, he will have to fill out a special application in the commune, go through the verification procedure at the internal security, border guard and police authorities and submit fingerprints.

How the government will deal with the huge number of Ukrainian children who do not attend school is still unknown.

The minister stated that the decision of the Polish government must be coordinated with the Ukrainian state (such negotiations are ongoing). Currently, a special law allows online education both in Ukraine and in Polish schools.

"Under the PESEL UKR system, we have 380 school-age children, and 210 people receive 800+ assistance. Children. How many are there in Poland? We don't know," said Dushchyk.
