16 refugee centers with more than 6000 places are planned to be built in several districts of Berlin, and 1000 places will soon be added at the former Tegel Airport. This was announced by the city's mayor, Kai Wegner, writes Berlin.de.
These are container-type houses that can accommodate 6130 people.

It is reported that these will be 1-3 storey buildings that will be used as dormitories and separate apartments.
The center for refugees on the territory of the former airport in Tegel is planned to be expanded by 1000 places - new places should appear there in the summer of 2024.
Currently, about 3900 refugees from Ukraine and about 540 asylum seekers are accommodated in the arrival center in Tegel. Construction of six new large tents is planned on the territory of the airport.
It is planned that the center for refugees on the territory of the former airport will operate until December 31, 2025, after which the objects will be dismantled.
Currently, there are about 12 emergency accommodation centers in Berlin, but the authorities plan to close them after some time.
