A strong craving for chocolate can indicate a deficiency of certain substances in the body, explains scientist Anatoliy Bala.

According to Anatoliy Bala, an allergist-immunologist, candidate of medical sciences, most often a strong craving for chocolate is a reflection of eating habits. That is, people simply get used to regularly consuming this product.

"There are people who are addicted to tea or coffee, and here it can be exactly the same story," the doctor noted.

In addition, the increased desire to eat chocolate can indicate that the body lacks substances that are antidepressants for it. Eating chocolate stimulates the production of mood-improving, relaxing neural components. For this reason, in a stressful situation, when the body lacks its own resources to relieve tension, a craving for sweets and chocolate in particular may be felt.

Another reason for this phenomenon is mental stress, the brain's need for additional energy nourishment.

"There are situations when the body needs to increase its brain activity by eating chocolate, because it contains caffeine," Bala explained.
