In Russia, after the attack on the "Crocus City Hall" concert hall near Moscow, anti-migrant rhetoric intensified, which threatens to turn into inter-ethnic enmity within the Russian Federation.

As reported by Ukrinform, this is stated in the publication of The New York Times for Wednesday.

The most ardent supporters of the ruler of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, are Russian nationalists, whose posts on social networks are full of xenophobic appeals and statements.

Millions of migrant workers and ethnic Russians have faced xenophobia in the past, but it has intensified now that four of the detainees allegedly involved in the attack are from Tajikistan.

"Migrants are needed as cannon fodder" for the Russian army "and as labor force," said Russian human rights activist Svitlana Hannushkina. "And when they (the authorities) need to implement the counter-terrorism plan, they will also focus on this group" of Tajiks, she added.

"They will arrest Tajiks and accuse Ukrainians," said Hannushkina. "It was clear from the very beginning."

It is noted that Tajiks in Moscow are so scared that they hardly go outside. They now fear not only deportation, but also the fact that they can be forcibly sent to war against Ukraine.

Putin has always sought to use ethnic tensions for his own purposes. His rise to power was associated with the war in Chechnya, where Russia tried to brutally suppress separatist movements. Putin also helped fuel separatism in the Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia for their further occupation.

The attack on the concert hall took place in the evening of March 22. More than 6 people were in the building. A group of armed men opened fire on visitors with automatic weapons. The building was set on fire.
