The version that Mitsubishi may change the Pajero form factor in the next generation was first voiced by the Japanese portal BestCarWeb. Now he also reports that the new Pajero will not be a crossover after all, but will retain the frame structure - it will allegedly be built on the platform of the Triton/L200 pickup truck. Whether this is so, we will find out soon - the next generation Pajero is expected only in 2027.

Mitsubishi Pajero production ended in 2021 - the last batch of 800 fourth-generation SUVs in the "farewell" Final Edition version was sold in Australia. A few years after that, there were rumors that the automaker could release the fifth generation of the model, although there was no official information about it.

The first version put forward by BestCarWeb was that the next Pajero will turn into a premium crossover on the Outlander hybrid platform. Moreover, in terms of equipment and comfort, such a car will be comparable to the Range Rover. Now the portal says the opposite: Pajero will remain frame-based, and the Triton/L200 platform will be used as a basis, which recently returned to the Japanese market after a long absence and is popular there.

The author of the news refers to the words of a representative of Mitsubishi - in the conversation he mentioned that the company "is making every effort to revive the Pajero". At the same time, it was about the new Triton pickup frame, which is stronger and stiffer than its predecessor. As a reminder, the pickup truck has an independent suspension on double wishbones at the front, and a solid bridge on springs at the rear. There are two all-wheel drive versions of Triton: with all-wheel drive Easy Select 4WD, which is rigidly connected, and Super Select 4WD-II with a central differential (distributes traction in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear axle), a reduction gear and several modes of operation for different types of surfaces .

At the end of 2023, the Triton/L200 model returned to the Japanese market, where it had not been sold for 12 years. The pickup got off to a good start: less than two months after the start of sales, the Japanese made 1300 pre-orders (650 units per month). At the same time, Mitsubishi itself did not count on such success - it was planned to sell only two hundred pickups per month.
