Great Britain would not be able to fight Russia for more than two months, admits the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Defense Daniel Sheridan. Lieutenant-General Sir Rob Magowan said the Armed Forces must be guided by the "operational risk" that arises from insufficient resources for future wars.
It comes after Defense Secretary Grant Shapps admitted to MPs that he had lobbied Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Gantt to increase defense spending in the recent budget but failed to deliver an increase.
At a House of Commons defense committee hearing, a senior officer in the Royal Marines said: “We have been very clear that the amount of money we are spending on munitions at the moment is...significantly...out of step with the threats we face. We've been clear that we need to spend more money than planned on what we call an integrated air and missile defense system."
