Let's understand what stainless wire is needed for

Specialized companies, professionally engaged in metal rolling from stainless metal, sell a wide range of "stainless steel" wire. For example, this one source offers to buy high-quality and reliable wire at affordable prices. However, not everyone knows where such products are used and what are the reasons for their demand. Let's find out what kind of wire it is and in what specific areas of activity it is used.

Where stainless steel wire is used

The use of products in different spheres of life is due to differences in their operational characteristics, which depend on four factors:

  1. Manufacturing method.
  2. Type of material processing.
  3. Type of section.
  4. Stainless steel brands.

When choosing between different types of wire, a particularly important parameter is the brand of stainless steel used in its manufacture. This indicator mainly determines one or another field of application. Therefore, it is important to always pay attention to the marking. In the steel brand, you can read all the information necessary for selection, find out what alloying additives are used, the method of manufacturing the product, and other characteristics.

Stainless wire is mainly used in the production of:

  • spokes and protective nets:
  • springs;
  • engines and units, mainly for yachts, boats and other water transport;
  • products in the food industry;
  • electrodes for sheet steel welding.

Now it's time to learn how wire is made.

Wire manufacturing methods

Stainless wire is made of high-alloy steel. Non-ferrous metals and alloys act as impurities. The addition of chromium, nickel, cobalt determines the special properties of the material. "Stainless steel" with a chromium content of 12 to 20% has increased resistance to corrosion and aggressive media, but at the same time it does not lose its mechanical strength. Such a composition is called "classic".

The production of stainless steel wire is carried out in two ways. Hot rolling is cheaper, however, with cold rolling it is possible to make a higher quality product.

The wire can have a round, oval cross-section, and even in the shape of a trapezoid. Requirements GOST they are determined by the presence of only a circular cross-section and a diameter of 0,2–0,75 mm.

After additionally processing the finished product with the help of different metals, it is possible to make three versions of the wire - copper-plated, oxidized, "lightened" non-oxide.
